Dammu is one of the most expected movies of the season. NTR and Boyapati Srinu combination generated huge hype over the film and pre release buzz was enormous. Fans expected nothing short of a blockbuster from this film. NTR has been due for a big hit since long and did he deliver the goods with Dammu?


What is it about?

Rama Chandra (NTR) is an orphan, who gets adopted by Zameendar family and renamed as Raja Vasi Reddi Vijaya Sri Simha. He has to take the responsibility of the family and their age old revenge. Their family and the villagers have been facing so much torture from their rivals (Nazar and co). Now Raja has to take the responsibility of saving their village from them.


Performances:                                                                                                                                

NTR is brilliant in a powerful yet subtle role. He has underplayed emotions in most of the scenes and came up with a roaring performance when needed. We can't imagine any other hero in this role. It is tailor made for him. Dialogue delivery is his major asset. However his dances lacked the spark. There aren't any noticeable dance moves in this film.

Trisha is complete mismatch here. She looked older than NTR. Karthika too isn't compatible on screen with NTR. She looked very tall and doesn't have the charm to play that innocent role. Venu is Okay. Nazar is not fit enough to play the big baddie. Brahmanandam and Ali are wasted. Rest of the star cast did nothing specific to mention.

                                                                                                     
On the Technical Front:

Dialogues by Rathnam are good. There are few scenes which are completely conceived for dialogues and Rathnam excelled in those scenes. Music by Keeravani is fine. Songs are not picturized well. Much hyped Ruler song lacked the necessary punch. None of the songs have situations and that is a big minus. Background score is pretty good in emotional scenes. Cinematography is top notch and Art work in Ruler song deserves applause. Production values are rich.

Director Boyapati Srinu tried his best to deliver a blockbuster with NTR. But too much hype and expectations surrounding the film didn't come in handy for him. He failed to reach the expectations. There are few emotional sequences that have his stamp, but on a whole Boyapati didn't live up to the hype.

Analysis:                                                                                   

Dammu is an age old story which caters to mass audiences. The family sentiment angle given to the script is not dealt well. Everything looked forced due to lethargic screenplay. First half starts on a superb note and sets the mood. But the film fails to sustain the pace after ten minutes. Only the interval block is good in entire first hour barring the opening scenes.

Second half is not up to the mark again. The graph rises and falls until the climax. And the concluding scenes are poorly conceived. Dammu lacks the necessary power and punch to rock the box office.

NTR fans will like the movie for his terrific performance and audiences who like so called powerful massy scenes may give it thumbs up. It lacks the necessary elements that enthrall the general public. Family audiences and ladies may not like this mass masala treat with a good share of violence.

Dammu will get good openings for sure and has a good space of two weeks to rule the box office. We have to wait and see if it can sustain until another biggie arrives.


Verdict:  Dammu's biggest strength is NTR!
